Un Viejo proverbio dice: Un viaje de mil kilometros comienza con un primer paso al frente—un sentimiento apropiado para los equipos que se han juntado para el Campeonato Mundial IIHF Junior Sub.20 Division II, Grupo B de este año a celebrarse en Logroño, España.
Para la mayoria de estos jugadores, este torneo sera el primero de sus pasos importantes en su carrera Internacional de Competicion. Todos los paises grandes del hockey hielo han basado su fuerza en su juventud, por este motivo es de un optimismo obvio al ver participantes tan diversos que tomaran parte en este torneo. Los seis equipos de este año en el Mundial Sub.20 Division II, Grupo B vienen de tres continentes. La nacion de China que representa a Asia, mientras que Mejico viene del otro lado del Atlantico para juntarse con los cuatro equipos Europeos. Que es mas impresionante aun que la diversidad representada, es que realmente el torneo sera competitivo para todos durante el evento de este año. Para los espectadores en Logroño, los partidos donde participara España, Mejico, Paises Bajos y Croacia seran sumamente competitivos ya que estos cuatro paises estaban muy igualados durante el Campeonato del año pasado en la Division II. Gran Bretaña seguro que esta deseando volver a estar en la Division I, mientras que China espera mejorar su actuacion del año pasado. Con este formato de todos contra todos, esta claro de que cualquier equipo puede llevarse el primer premio. Es alentador ver una competicion tan abierta. Esto significa que los programas de desarollo de cada pais esta siendo eficaz ya que la diferencia entre estos equipos es minima. Sin importar el resultado final, espero que este sea el primero de muchos Campeonatos de la IIHF en el que veremos a estos jugadores jovenes compitiendo. Estoy seguro de que los participantes de cada equipo y a los paises a quienes representan les espera un futuro brillante. Como Presidente de la IIHF, deseo extender mi gratitud a la Federacion Española de Deportes de Hielo-Hockey Hielo, por asumir la responsabilidad de organizar el Mundial IIHF 2009 Junior Sub.20 Division II, Grupo B, donde deseo a todos los jugadores la mejor suerte en este Torneo y en sus carreras deportivas en el hielo. | 
An old proverb says: A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step--an appropriate sentiment for the teams collected at this year’s U20 Division II World Championship in Logroño, Spain.
For most of these players, this tournament is the one of the first major steps in their international playing careers. Every great hockey nation has built itself on the strength of its youth players, which is why it is heartening to see such a diverse field taking part in this tournament. The six teams in this year’s U20 Division II, Group B World Championship hail from three continents. Representing Asia is the nation of China, while Mexico hails from the other side of the Atlantic, joining the four European-based squads. What is more impressive than the diversity represented is the fact that the field is truly wide open at this year’s event. For the fans in Logroño, the games involving Spain, Mexico, the Netherlands and Croatia are sure to be competitive as these four nations were all neck-in-neck at last year’s Division II championship. Great Britain is sure to be eager to make a quick return to Division I, while China hopes to improve on its performance from last year. With this round robin format, truly any team can take home the top prize. It is heartening to see such an open field. It means that the development programs of each nation are effectively doing their job as the difference between the teams is razor thin. Regardless of the outcome, I hope this will be the first of many IIHF championship events that we will see these young players compete in. I know that a bright future is ahead for the participants of each team, and the nations they represent. As a president of the IIHF I would like to extend my gratitude to the Spanish Association for assuming the responsibility to organize this 2009 IIHF World U20 Division II Group B Championship and I wish the players the best of luck at this tournament and in their future careers on the ice. |
